Prep Notebook: Peabody new football coach at Harbor

Apparently it was a one-and-done deal for George Swade as Harbor College’s football coach. Swade said Monday he is officially stepping down from his third tour of duty as the school’s football coach, and he is handing the reins to offensive coordinator Brett Peabody, a former South Torrance head coach who is entering his eighth year with the program.

With Crespi, Santa Margarita, St. John Bosco and L.A. Loyola having dismissed coaches after disappointing seasons, it’s getting hard to distinguish big-time high school programs from college and pro football.

There has been a disheartening descent into the abyss taking place at the most unexpected of places — big-time private school football programs.

UCLA will not lose offensive coordinator Chow

His eyes glued to the television, his phone glued to his ear, Kevin Prince sat and waited like the rest of the college football world. Finally Norm Chow calmed the nerves of UCLA faithful and broke the hearts of USC fans simultaneously — the news coming in around midday that Chow would remain the Bruins’ offensive coordinator, ignoring the Trojans’ pleas to join new head coach Lane Kiffin’s staff — and Kevin Prince sighed with relief.
